MAGNIFICENT MAY

WELCOME BACK TO ROOM 10 BLOG

INQUIRY - Theme:"Citizenship"

So on the first day of school the Junior teachers left classrooms for the students to set up and decided how they will want there classroom to look.  Here we looked at what each student will be doing to get their room set up for the learning.  There was many links to their learning for just this one activity
  • Working in a team environment - Questions and deep thinking are valued.  Mistakes are seen as useful, all students contribute and their suggestions are valued, being stuck is seen as honourable and students learn from shared discussion with the teacher, teacher aide and peers.
  • Organisation skills - When students are confident to voice their opinions about situations they are then able to step into problems independently rather than immediately turning to us as teachers to ask what to do. Realising what works and doesn't work on their own.
  • Problem solving skills - The students required thinking and playing-with-the-problem time, in how to organisation the learning environment.
  • Communication skills - The need to test out ideas, to make conjectures, to go up dead ends and adjust their thinking in the light of what hey learn from this, discuss ideas with others and be comfortable to take risks.
It was a great experience for Room 10, loving every moment and having fun at the same time.  This was the start of our Inquiry
